And then ... Enjoy the Prettyboy!

Outdoor recreation is a part of our way of life - from hunters and fishermen to singles, families and grandparents. Protecting our natural areas will ensure that we still have places to hike, bike, boat, fish, hunt, see wildlife or just enjoy the quiet and peace of nature.

The Prettyboy Reservoir property has several hiking trails that range from easy to difficult. Eight are described in Bryan MacKay’s book “Baltimore Trails” available locally at bookstores or from Amazon for about $12.  Also two trails, Hemlock Gorge and Copperhead Point have just recently been described online by Mid-Atlantic Hikes. (Check out their website - they describe many trails in the Mid-Atlantic area.

The reservoir offers largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, sunfish, perch, and carp. The Gunpowder River below the dam is a great fly fishing river. For more information click here.

Canoes, kayaks and rowboats are allowed on the reservoir as long as they do not enter another waterway (with the exception of Loch Raven or Liberty Reservoirs). This ensures that exotic, invasive species do not enter these reservoirs (this is a real concern so please understand why the rule is there). For more information click here.
